Interesting Reads

Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind, by Shunryu Suzuki

The book introduces the concept of non-duality, which means not looking at things through the lens of you and me, right and wrong, good and bad, joy and sadness, etc. Although the book uses dualistic methods to teach non-dualism (perhaps there is no way non-dualism can be taught), it accepts its own limitation. The book is very honest in not claiming to propose a definitive way to see reality, but it offers an interesting perspective. However, one limitation of this book is that it never even partially suggests that non-dualism could be a myth. In that case, a person may spend a large fraction of their time sitting in meditation in peace, avoiding the real messiness of the world. Another trap here is that there should be ``no gaining idea''—so once taken, there is no end to this path if followed honestly.
